We have made it through the first five day week, and I still feel very good about this class. Some new topics were introduced, but I think the newest thing for me was explicating poetry. In my past English classes, poetry has always been something that we talk about for a week or two; never have I done an in depth analyses of a poem each week. In the beginning, I felt very dumb and nervous because I didn’t really understand how to look at poetry in the way that was asked of me. After only a few days, I started to feel better though. I had finally started to understand what I was looking for and stopped feeling like a fourth grader in a college class. As the course continues, I know poetry will definitely be something I have to work on as it will probably be my biggest battle in this class, but I’ll figure it out eventually. Another main focus for the week was starting our summer reading essays. I’m very excited that this is a group project. I love being able to discuss books and bounce ideas off of other people. I also love the setup for this essay. The discussion page we had to fill out was very helpful, as it made it relatively easy to sort out our ideas and pick the three chapters we wanted to write about. Talking about three different books at one time might be difficult, especially for our first essay, but I’m confident in my group and believe that will be able to do it. While working on this paper, we have used different websites to give us a few writing tips, and this is one of them. http://www.scoolwork.com/EssayWritingGuide/How_to_write_an_a_plus_comparison_essay.aspx
